If you are thinking about starting out on a fitness program, you must know that you are about to make a serious commitment. As such, it is important to ask yourself if you are better off buying used fitness equipment or to invest potentially thousands of dollars on new equipment that you may end up only using a couple of times.

This article will provide some tips regarding used fitness equipment so that you can get more out of your money.
The first and possibly most important piece of advice I can give is to do your research before buying anything. Ask friends or check online to see if the equipment you are thinking of buying is worthwhile in terms of price and reliability. The worst thing that can happen is to buy an equipment only to have it break down after a few weeks.
Similarly, you should not buy any equipment that is too outdated. If no one is willing to service it, or you cannot get spare parts, you will be setting yourself up for an unnecessary headache.
In terms of pricing, ensure that you are getting the best value for money by avoiding any purchase during the ‘peak season’ of October to March. People are generally keen to look good for summer and tend to buy exercise equipment then. By the end of summer, many people will have become unmotivated and the market for used equipment will have risen significantly.
Also, rather than buying used fitness equipment from a dealer, do your search online, in newspapers, or at garage sales. You are likely to find better deals. Finally, never pay more than half of the original price of an item. The only exception is if you are absolutely sure that the equipment is rarely used or is in mint condition.
Here is a special note on those fitness equipment that are regularly advertised on TV. The truth is that the reason new products are brought out so often is because none of them last too long. For this reason, you should completely avoid buying any of such equipment if it has been used. An exception could only be made if you are buying from someone you know well and you are absolutely sure that they used that piece of used fitness equipment no more than few times.
Finally, be patient when buying used fitness equipment. You may be eager to begin your new fitness regime straight away but by being patient you will find a good deal rather than wasting your money on an exercise machine that ends up being unreliable.
