If you are experiencing diabetes, here are some diabetes exercises that can help in reducing the risk of the disease. Before that, let’s learn abit more about diabetes.

There are 2 types of diabetes:

  • Type I and
  • Type II.

Both of these involve the body’s difficulty in managing blood sugar. Sugar, or more appropriately glucose, is the body’s primary source of energy.

The most well-known reason for this is the body’s inability to make a good amount of insulin, a hormone that primarily carries glucose to cells. As most people know, when the body can’t make enough insulin, that’s Type I diabetes. This is where daily insulin injections come in to remedy the situation. This is the more debilitating type of diabetes and requires professional medical assistance.

When insulin is produced, but is ineffective in doing its job instead of just not being in proper quantities, this is Type II diabetes. This usually hits older people as the kidneys start deteriorating and the individual adopt a less active lifestyle. This is worsened by indulging too much on food.

Type II’s effects stack up, but can be controlled with a proper diet and an exercise program under the supervision of a physician.

Diabetes exercises is found to help increase the body’s sensitivity to insulin, as well as obviously reducing fat. This helps in a more proper regulation of glucose. Weight training, for example, can help increase metabolism, lose fat, and have the body use more glucose rather than just sitting there in your stores. This can help your muscles use and store glucose better, letting you have an optimum glucose level.

When setting out to go for this route, you have to consult your physician first and progress gradually. There is no use in getting into it too quick if you’re actually not used to it. If you feel pain, you have to slow down and take things down a notch. Pain may discourage you, but keep the benefits in mind to keep at it and have your glucose and insulin levels in check.

A 5- to 10-minute warm-up session is important to keep injuries out of the equation. It should prime your muscles for any exercise routine you may get into without getting yourself hurt. Injuries and heat stroke will only keep you from exercising, which defeats the purpose of exercising in the first place.

Easy to take for granted, humidity is something you should think about as well. Since it can get hotter in high humidity, it makes it harder for your body to maintain core temperature. This is due to the moisture in the air makes it harder for you to sweat the heat out, so you will have to wear loose clothing and tone down your workout.

Walking is a perfect starter to your diabetes exercises routine. To keep things safe, walk on grass rather than hard surfaces like concrete to reduce impact to joints. Having good shoes will do as well. An hour a day is best, but 20 minutes every three to four days each week will do as well.

No matter what, discipline and persistence is what you need to fight this disease. It must not make you lose hope at all. By changing your lifestyle, doing the proper diabetes exercises and keeping at it, you can control this illness and lead a healthier and happier life.
