According to Wiki, Fitness (often denoted w in genetic models of population) is a central concept in the evolutionary theory. It describes the ability of an individual of certain genotype to reproduce, and is usually equal to the proportion of genes of the individual in all genes of the next generation. If differences in individual genotypes affect fitness, then the frequencies of genotypes will change over generations, genotypes with higher fitness become more common.
